It was 30 years ago this week..... well you know the story. Ten years later the "survivors" decided to pay tribute to the band members who died that day in the wetlands of McComb, Mississippi with a "Reunion/Tribute" tour. It was suppose to be a one-time only event but as we know Lynyrd Skynyrd is alive and well and is a band that is still making a lot of people happy. I am not one of those people as I have my own opinions about the post-crash lineup but I was happy to have been at this show where you had Gary, Ed, Billy, Leon & Artimus on the same stage playing the music they had made!
After the Indianapolis Van Halen show was posted by arcme252 and I have seen a few harsh reviews posted here & at JTT about the sound quality of the Conseco Fieldhouse and some of the comments about how Market Square Arena was superior for it's accoustics I had forgotten how great this show sounded! Keep in mind I have not yet had a full 2 years under my belt but you will be hard pressed to find a better recording of this concert and I have to give credit to the venue & the crew of Lynyrd Skynyrd for this fine document!
I did manage to tape part of the soundcheck from the hallway outside the concourse while waiting for the security to raise the mall-style fence/barrier at the enterance next to the 6th floor ticket windows. It is a bit rough in spots as I do have some "bumpage" of my microphone. The 3rd disc is The Rossington Band who opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd.... which is really The Rossington-Collins Band without Allen Collins who was almost killed in a car crash a year before.
