notes: this was an 11th hour giggity (i.e. last minute decision), as I wasn't gonna pay to see these guys, BUT, I'd met a guy who worked with Rossington when I was @ Furthur Fest in Denver in '97, and I called his PAGER (remember those) #, he called me back, said if I hooked him up with some "kind" (meaning Gary, @ the show), that I'd be on the list +1. well, I happened to have jars of various flavors on the shelf, and I put together a quarter of SIX different kinds of the hippy lettuce, drove 350 miles to Anchorage (in the middle of winter), and got it to the Sully about 4:30pm. basically, just in gas and herbs, them tix cost about 70 each (80 for herb, 60 for gas), but they ssay $0.00 on them.
not being the biggest Skynyrd aficionado, but wanting to get a good recording, I planted myself about 20-30 feet from the stage in front of the stage left PA. a loosely packed floor (just over 3K attended out of 8750, Skynyrd had been to Anchorage in '89, which even when 10 years apart CAN affect 'dinosaur rock' ticket sales, imo), and this fucking 6'4" Indian dude decides to stand RIGHT in front of me about 20 minutes into the gig...while I could have moved, I instead noticed his fancy leather jacket with LOTS of tassels on it. I then proceeded during the course of the show to hock about 60-80 lung nuggets on the back of his coat (that's why "Free Bird" fades out at the very end, wanted to get outta there before he noticed)...motherfucker gonna be so rude as to not stand 2-3 feet on either side of me, then motherfucker gonna pay the price.
aaaaahhhh, memories!!!
you folks listen and tell me what you think....as Gary and the band shoulda been stoned as fuck on AK weed, I made SURE of it.

Here's another first set of shows from master taper Steve Hagar. He is my Alaskan contact. We first started trading around the early to mid 90's. He has a lot of great
Tesla recordings from all over the place. He's also got many great masters from Alaska which i'll be sharing too. If you have any shows from Alaska it's likely his recording.
Many thanks to him for letting me post his masters for everyone to enjoy, most of his recordings are outstanding quality.
Enjoy!
Brian.
