JOE'S MEMORIES:
"Rock and Roll Revival" shows were popular in the early '70s, due to Sha Na Na's appearance in the Woodstock film
and this concert was to feature Chuck Berry as the star of the show, with Martha and the Vandellas and Sha Na Na as the opening acts.
Unfortunately, Chuck was notorious for using local bands to back him up, without any rehearsals, or just canceling his appearance at the last minute.
Everything seemed to be looking good for a great show, but Chuck lived up to his reputation and canceled at the last minute,
leaving Sha Na Na to be the headliners. The concert was sponsored by St. Francis College in Biddeford, Maine, and The St. Francis Group,
a band comprised of students from the college, who were to be Chuck's backing band, opened the show with a short set.
Martha and the Vandellas took the stage and did a set that covered their entire catalog of hits. "Nowhere To Run", "Heat Wave", "Jimmy Mack"
and "Honey Chile" brought back memories of the 60s and they closed the set with a medley of "Dancing In The Street/"I Want To Take You Higher"
and returned to the stage to do an unexpected encore of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord"/"Let The Sun Shine In.
They did a good job getting the audience prepared for the much anticipated "high energy" performance of Sha Na Na.

Many Many Thanks to Joe
