(this broadcast may be missing a couple songs-per Phil's comment at the end and the fact that these shows were normally closer to 60 minutes)
source:
94.7 KMET-FM > Fisher receiver > Sony TC-160 (the deck didn't have Dolby) using an Ampex 20/20+ C60 cassette
DAT transfer:
Nakamichi CR-3A (no Dolby) Bias @ 120us > Phase Linear 1000 auto-correlator > Sony DTC-690 (16-32)
the cassette no longer plays so I had to use this 1990's DAT backup.
2011 transfer:
Sony DTC-690 > Audigy 4 pro (via toslink) > Audacity (clean up and resample to 44.1) > CD Wav > Flac (Level 8) > Stamp ID3 tag editor
Martin Mull is a classic artist and like many Record Plant broadcasts this is an exceptional performance.
I am really hoping someone else has a better recording of this show.
The sound quality is not real bad but not the best either.
My radio reception was not always very good at this time (1973-75).
This recording has that just barely off station fuzzy sound and at one point breaks up a little when I moved the antenna.
Since this show doesn't appear on any of the KSAN live broadcast lists I have found I am sharing this anyhow.
Keep in mind that I am a tough critic of my own tapes and others have commented that this is great quality.
My best guess for a date would be 1973 (the year before it was broadcast on KMET in Los Angeles).
This is derived by the comment about Martin's single (Eyes of My Dog) being just released (late 1972).
Maybe someone out there can add some more info on this?
Following up on this request was "gv0000" who posted a comment on the Dime with the correct recording date.
By the way, this evening KMET was supposed to re-broadcast Steely Dan at the record plant in Hollywood.
Lawyers stopped that re-broadcast so Martin Mull was substituted.
I was disappointed at first but ended up becoming a lifelong fan of Martin Mull after listening to this show.
It got me to thinking that I should just record everything and sort it out later (which has finally started-35 years later).
I hope you all enjoy another of my first live tape recordings.
Thank you Martin for the laughs.
