From MatthewCurry.com:
Matthew Curry isn?t old enough to buy a beer at the corner store, and he probably only has a learner?s permit for driving, but he?s obviously obsessed and infatuated with the blues! There?s no question that the 16-year-old electric lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter has some chops. At age eleven, a veteran blues musician gave him the nickname of Little Big Man. It?s great when veteran musicians take a young prodigy under their wings to show him the ropes and tricks of the trade.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd appearing at the Castle Theatre here in Bloomington was too much to pass up. The ability to possibly sit in the front row at this small theater for the show was just icing on the cake!
Because the Castle is a taper-friendly venue, I contacted Kenny's management and posted through his fan forum site to try to get an official taping policy defined, with no response. So, I was forced to stealth the show instead of using my new KAM mics; the results are great, but there is the occassional hoot and hollar between songs that could have been avoided had I been allowed to mount the mics 10' in the air.
I had not heard of Bloomington native Matthew Curry prior to finding out he was the opener for KWS, but I sure was a fan afterwards!
The young man is an incredible musician and sounds more like a blues singer in his 50's than a teenager still unable to vote.
I have since emailed Matthew's management and posted on his website to determine if he has an official taping policy, but like Kenny, I have yet to receive a response. (Which is sad as he has played several local shows since this gig that I would have loved to have recorded)
One of the stage crew was nice enough to give me the setlist(s) for the show aftwards so the tracks are named correctly.
Enjoy this real up and comer, and be sure to support him by purchasing his official material and attending his shows if he plays near you.
