This will be the first of many Max Webster tapes posted from the 1973-76 era, all from a newly acquired collection of reel to reel tapes. These recordings will blow minds and shatter preconceptions. We will learn that Max Webster was a far more interesting band than any of us could've realized.

This is a fabulous stereo soundboard recording from a 1975 show. There are six songs on this tape, and they are all noteworthy in some way - not least because they would end up on four different albums, or none at all. Blue River Liquor Shine's instrumentation is different from the version that would end up on Universal Juveniles many years later, and some of the lyrics are unfinished. Here Among The Cats is the earliest instance of the Live Magnetic Air arrangement being played live (they played the album arrangement just three weeks before this, and there is a longer version played with Jim Bruton as keyboardist before Terry Watkinson joined). X + Y is where the title "Mutiny Up My Sleeve" originates, and Howdy Doody Boogie sketches out the beginnings of In The World Of Giants. Both Mitchell and Watkinson kept polishing their tunes until they were nice and shiny.
