ARTIST: Melanie

NOTE: Here's an upload you don't see every day. This is a charming and great set by Melanie (Safka). Quite simply she is one of the most dynamic and accomplished singer/songwriters, well up there in quality with Sandy Denny and Earth Song/Ocean Song-era Mary Hopkin. Possessing a great flair for songwriting and a voice of both subtlety and stunning power, this solo gig is certainly worth a download. I highly recommend the impeccably chosen (and mastered by Fripp/Singleton!) "Beautiful People: The Greatest Hits of Melanie" (however "Bitter Bad" didn't make the cut - check out the sample).

VENUE: (poss) Long Beach Arena, L.A. (poss) 2/2/73 ; Air date: In Concert #7 2/3/73 (WRIF-FM Detroit)

NOTE: Assuming the Melanie and Guess Who are from the same venue - From Dime's gv0000: "I tried to do some research on the date and venue. The newspaper TV listing said it was from Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. However the only Guess Who I could find in LA was Long Beach Arena on 2/2/73. The only NY show I could find was 2/5/73 at the Philharmonic Hall."

ABC-TV "In Concert" FM SIMULCASTS:
- The In Concert series ran every other Friday night on ABC-TV affiliates, with an audio simulcast on ABC radio stations. Each show ran from 11:30PM-1:00AM, with 75 minutes of music. Bands included the obscure, the awful, and the amazing. I taped all of these shows (all 53 of them, from 1972-75); I only taped bands that appealed to me, so this will not be the complete run.
-although all were FM, the technology was primitive, both on my side and on the network side. There were level irregularites, FM noise and compression, abusive commercial interruptions, etc.
-all of these segments, from one song to complete full shows, are as broadcast, and they are being shared with you with no alterations or changes from my original tapes.
-so far, this series for the most part remains unreleased, both on video and audio. Also, some bands who played one or two songs on these broadcasts most certainly played at least a set, so somewhere, hopefully, all of this stuff is safely warehoused. Hopefully someday it will see the light of day instead of hiding on dodgy tapes and videos in dark, dingy basements like mine. Let's be patient - it's only been 35 years so far...
-all of these tapes are my MASTERS, and I intend to eventually upload a ton of goodies I have from this series.
-thanks to the Mods for allowing this material to be shared even though the details may at times be lacking; please note that venue and date information on these broadcasts is frequently incomplete (any information would be greatly appreciated).

One from the basement, where a couple of hundred of these purely analogue goodies reside. All of these are from my trading and taping days (which ended in 1985), and these tapes are appearing after being shut away for over 22 years! These uploads will appear occasionally, as I find time, so please don't stay up nights waiting. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

GENERAL LINEAGE: trade/master cassette>AUDACITY (track splitting, no dolby or processing other than level set)>TLH Flac8, aligned, tested, ffp>you. Exact lineage will be stated in the torrent information.

SOURCES: FM, SBD, audience; all analogue, all torrented to you as received (in the rough with no cuts, sequencing, NR or alterations at all unless noted). This should keep both the masochist/purist and the tweaker/remixer happy.

SOUND RATINGS: Ratings are bootleg comparatives, not commercial gradings.
A+ 9-1/2 to 10/10 Excellent SBD, FM, exceptional audience tapes. No major problems.
A 9 to 9-1/2 Minor flaws (thick or thin sound, bass or treble problems, hiss), excellent audience tapes.
B 8-9 Moderate flaws (missing, exaggerated bass/treble, imbalance, substantial hiss), typical good audience tapes. Can be corrected with judicious EQ and tweaks.
C Masochist only.

ART: No art with these, so feel free to create some.

REMASTERING: I encourage anybody to remaster these recordings if they wish to - the goal is to provide the best listening experience for all, so go for it.

DOs/DON'Ts: If you've snatched this, it's yours to do what you want with it for your own personal use. Burn it, trade it, convert it to suit, glue it to your forehead so you can receive direct broadcasts - I don't care.
If you share it, please leave it intact and only share this material as you received it, unless you have a remaster you would like to share. Please give credit - taking text and music and sharing it as your own is sleazy and unacceptable.

COMMERCIAL MATERIAL: No commecially released material is included to the best of my knowledge (which may be old and out of date). Knowingly upping currently available commercially released works is THEFT, and should be discouraged at all times. The artists have devoted their lives to their music, and should be rewarded with the purchase of their works.

ENJOY!
