If you've ever wondered how Oakie From Muskogee would play in San Francisco, here's your chance to find out. This appears to be the entire performance, which ran just an hour, although it's certainly possible that some of the show was edited out. There was a small dropout at the beginning of Kern River that has been made to vanish. Unfortunately, most of a verse is missing in Rainbow Stew with no good way to cross-fade it.

This is certainly an AM broadcast because there's no audio information about 10 kHz, which is about the limit of what AM radio could do, and it's also mono. From the DJ, Sully Roddy, we learn that this is a re-broadcast, on May 23, 1997, on Sully's show, All Kinds of Country (which is still on the air), of a performance on the 16th (confirmed by concert posters, etc.) that was originally broadcast on the 16th or perhaps the 18th. At the concert, Frank Terry MC'd live from the stage, and at the end of the recording we hear Frank's outro followed by Sully ending the re-broadcast. Then we hear the same audio of Frank, which goes on for a while waiting to learn that there won't be an encore, and then a different DJ ends what must have been the original broadcast. Why both endings are on this recording is not known.

Thanks to Ted Mattes for sharing his DAT!

Enjoy!
