Comments :
This show features almost the entire repertoire from Meshell Ndegeocello's tribute album to Nina Simone, "Pour Une Ame Souveraine".
All selections were taken from that album, barring the opener (a cover version from The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows"), and Meshell's own "Grace" (the closing number).
Lizz Wright, who was the opening act for Meshell that same night, came onstage to sing "Nobody's Fault But Mine", as she had already done on the studio album.
The sound was a mess during the first three songs, especially Meshell's vocals which were drenched in some strange, awkward reverb during the opening number.
A few talkers seated here and there around me, but not much of an annoyance, really.
Starting in 1984, Festival Banlieues Bleues is a mostly jazz-oriented event taking place in Seine-Saint-Denis, near Paris, France.
Espace Lumire is a small concert hall with a 1,200 capacity.
Epinay-sur-Seine is a suburban town located in the northwestern outskirsts, 7 miles from downtown Paris.
Enjoy the music! :-D
Peace, MM.
