TRULY PISSED (yes, i do not care if this is allowed here...)

"desert-island concerts & artists" of my dear concert promoter friends & me:

MICHAEL WESTON KING

MWK is, not just IMHO,

- one of today's best SONGWRITERS...

- one of today's best Townes-Van-Zandt-song-INTERPRETER,
just check set1 track #12 here: Townes' "Waiting Around To Die"
flattered completely with Michael's song "Lay Me Down", morphing
a true song masterpiece into a outrageous & timeless magnum opus...

- one of today's best (and last - their limited
number declines constantly...) PROTEST SINGERS...

- one of today's best VOCALISTS. His voice gives me shivers
down the spine, goosebumps all over...and i'm truly hetero...

.....

Is it really necessary to introduce
our friend, Mr. Michael Weston King ?

MAYBE NOT IN A BETTER, EQUITABLE WORLD...

In a more fair and better world MWK would be
able to earn his living easy out of his music.

In a more fair and better world MWK would be
able to sell enough records and merchandise.

In a more fair and better world MWK would be
consistently a sight for sore eyes on television.

In a more fair and better world MWK would be a
steady guest on the radio, hosting his own show.

In a more fair and better world MWK would be
regularely in all music charts worldwide.

In a more fair and better world MWK would play
in front of more than the usual 20 - 50 people...

.....

WHAT ? YOU ARE TIRED OF READING THIS HERE ?
You know hundreds, thousands of gifted musicians
that never had a chance, never made it ?

ME TOO ! LOTTA SAD STORIES !

ABOUT THIS CONCERT HERE:

Michael Weston King (England)
03.06.2010 | 20.00 Uhr
Ort: Music Star
Veranstalter: Musik-Werkstatt e.V.

moderne Troubadour. Sein letztes Album, Crawling Through The USA, aufgenommen live in den USA 2008,

playing a lot of songs from the forthcoming new album (all protest songs) on this tour, as well as
some other 'songs of protest' that are currently on my mind, but I should still find room in the set
from some 'oldies' and a few requests. The new album is a mixture of brand new songs, along with my
interpretation, and reworking of some old ones, not just from the 1960's but some dating back as far
as the 1900's.
All of these songs have one thing in common, they are as relevant now as when they were first written."

FOR AN ABSENT FRIEND:

"He's Leaving"

Oh may the road rise up
To greet him
And the wind be at his back
The sunshine warm
Upon his lovely face.
The rain fall
Soft upon the fields
Until we meet again...

rewritten by MWK and recited at Jackie Leven's funeral as obituary...

MICHAEL WESTON KING (the name of the artist)
solo (no other musicians onstage...)

Music Star (the venue)
Norderstedt (the city)
Germany (the country)

June 03, 2010 (the date)

Norderstedt is a city in Germany and part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region
(Metropolregion Hamburg), the fifth largest city (with approximately 75.000
inhabitants) in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. Norderstedt was created
by the merger of four towns (Friedrichsgabe, Garstedt, Glashütte and Harksheide)
on 1 January 1970, and was then assigned to the district of (Kreis) Segeberg.

"Wir möchten interessierten Mitbürgern 'ehrliche und handgemachte' Musik nahebringen.
Musik die im Radio und TV nicht gespielt wird und auch sonst keinerlei Lobby hat."

Im Norderstedter MusicStar finden im Jahr etwa 50 Konzerte mit
internationalen Künstler aus Folk, Blues und Rock statt.

http://www.harksheide.de/

as far as we know NONE of this torrent was used commercially...

Michael Weston King - vocals, 2 acoustic guitars and 1 strap, harmonica

recorded by deafmusic, audience to SDHC-card

the Taubmusik recording/transfer 1:

PLEASE NOTE: DON'T ASK ABOUT MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS IN THIS SECTION HERE !
The taper and mixing engineer deafmusic cannot remember the brand of cables
he had used during this tour - definitely them expensive ones with 24 carat
fully golden connectors and thick twisted pure silver wires - and he even
won't remember exactly all his particular handholds in the final mix here.

My dear buddy hanwaker usually always writes about "his" uploads
of other people's recordings: "Don't ask - I'm just the messenger !"

SO THERE'S NOTHING MORE TO ADD - TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT...

SBD desk > analog line > Zoom H2 (16/44.1) > SD-Card > Medion PC w/ Creative soundcard >
> Creative Wave Studio (edits, normalize, indices) > CD-Rs

and what lonetaper did (nearly nothing, as usual...) - the transfer 2:

CD-Rs > sel customised studio PC, Motherboard with new AMD Phenom™ II X6 six-core processor 1090T,
clock speed 3,2 GHz, Serial ATA Interface > Exact Audio Copy (files check, transfer) > WAV files >
> actually 1TB Western Digital Harddisc with Thermaltake HD Cooler (EVER had a HardDisc burnout ??) >
> lonetaper's secret box of miracles # > Traders Little Helper (level 6 encoding, align on sector boundaries) >
> FLAC (TLH again: test encoded audio files, check audio for SBE, show audio file details) > DIME

# -> Frizze NAILED THIS SHOW HERE...

so NO additional EQ'ing was used here, and none of those compressors, Sonic Maximizer
or other psychoacoustic processors - why ruin another true deafmusic recording ?

it sounds completely the way it was distinguishable
that night in this venue...IF NOT WAY BETTER ;-)

I accentuated just all the spoken passages inbetween the songs, averagely +5,5 dB
(with the same amount of digital hiss reduction), balanced the stereo channels
(the right one about +0,8 dB), and reduced some of the instrumental plug ins.
The only further addition was a short fade-in at the beginning, and a fade-out
at the end, after the audience applause, so truly NO MUSIC was harmed or lost.

this upload here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archives.
if you want to know more about, check the old uploads...lotta stuff to read !

DE FACTO THIS IS FROM - deafmusic - ANOTHER PRICELESS "TAUBMUSIC" MASTERPIECE...

Leo once wrote:
VERY SPECIAL THANKS, from the bottom of my heart, to my longtime
friend & fellow DIMEr deafmusic for opening his incredible archive.
Parts of the "Deafmusic Collection" are also in the "MWM"-vaults, as we
did not only trade with each other for 30+ years, we also viewed and
recorded a bunch of shows together, as friends, music fans and concert
promoters, usually with a bunch of Tascams and Sony's in a row...

BIG BIG THANKS TO MICHAEL WESTON KING - PLUS everyone involved
@ Music Star - especially Wolfgang, Andrea, Lena & Sally.
http://www.harksheide.de/
http://www.datapartner.de/

SAME THANKS GOES OUT TO HIS GERMAN LABEL AND ALL THEIR SUPPORT,
INCLUDING THIS INCREDIBLE SOUNDMAN TOURING SOMETIMES WITH HIM...

Big thanks to my wife, Mrs. Leo, for supporting
and taking an active part in all my crazyness...

No animals were harmed in the making of this
recording or during the mastering and transfer.

And if there's some interest, maybe there is MORE TO COME...
it just depends on YOUR demeanor, and lotta useful comments ;-)

MICHAEL WESTON KING - THE TENDER PLACE, THE WORKING HEART

What are we to make of a man who accurately sees the North of England and its citizens like one
long Edward Hopper painting, but who also views the rest of the world with the same strong eye
for the heat and cold that all people endure in time?

Nearly always with Michael's work there is a sense of regret, but the hues, shades and primary
colours that transport such feelings are masterful - you know just what he means as his song turns
a corner and sees itself in a window across the street. There are few finer moments in poetry, prose
or song than when you think to yourself 'ah yes, i've always known that, but i've never been able
to articulate it before.' That's what this man's songs do for me, and the reason i respect him the
way i do is that i know it ain't easy. Writing songs with your head is actually pretty simple once
you get the hang of it, but to be in near constant touch with the working heart, as Michael is -
that's hard work. And it pays off for him in sudden images worth a million words, an unexpected
chord change that makes you fall gratefully into a cool blue pool on a cruel Summer's day.

'Still i'm feeling pretty good in my cheap cologne' - that's a line from 'The Englishman's Obsession
with America (Part 2)', a languid, dusty song about (as far as i'm concerned) the difficulty of
thinking about difficulties in your life when the day is too hot and there is no particular relief
in sight - apart, that is, from feeling pretty good in your cheap cologne. It's not a lot to go on
in terms of feeling good about the way things are, but you can't help liking the man in the song,
and that's also typical of Michael's writing. He knows the world is full of bastards, including hims-
elf, but he has sympathy (without sentimentality) for people and their struggle. 'God knows, we've
all been there, or we maybe going there', is where he seems to start, when he looks at the world.

The King and I have had many an adventure together over the years. We've sipped good cold white wine
as our train lumbered across the heartlands of Greece, heading north - we've driven through the snowbound
mountains of Snowdonia in Wales - we've been spat on by angry taxi drivers in Bruxelles, and we've
spent many a long hour in recording studios wondering if things are going well, before calling it a
day and retiring to a good pub to talk of other matters.

Michael's writing is sometimes at its most elegant when it is purporting to be ungainly, like the
pile-up of images in his song '35 Regrets' One of the regrets he mentions is ‘the masterpiece not
painted’, but this, at least, in his case, isn't true. Critics often talk of an artist's 'masterpiece'
but i never think this is right. A song, a poem, a painting, a goal, may speak well and highly of
the one who delivers it. But, as in confession, it is the collection of smaller details over the
years which reveals the mastery and true intent of the woman or the man.

The working heart of the master can be felt in all of Michael's songs, and as for his straightforward
joy of living in the face of all the evidence - we should be so lucky...

- Jackie Leven (* 18. Juni 1950, † 14. November 2011)
