The 1978 show is a full headline set (only 1 tape flip interruption
about 46 minutes into the show, with just a few seconds missing) and
the 1980 one is a full opening act set (not sure for who, I probably
recorded that too). They are both clean recordings, not much clapping
or crowd noise in either, and both are with Ursula, who reminds me a
little bit of Brazilian vocalist Flora Purim crossed with Ella Fitzgerald.
An interesting combination of style. I really would have liked to see
them around 1976 or so, they had some nice music then, this is nice music
too. (for those not familiar with this group, Michal plays violin and
his wife Ursula sings lead vocals). There's some stuff in here that sounds
a little like 70's Jean-Luc Ponty, alot of it doesn't really sound like
anyone else. I saw them 3 times from 78 to 80, and enjoyed the music in
all of them, still have yet to check out/transfer the other show, (which
is a 1st generation reel from master cassettes), but all of these 2 are
direct from the original master cassettes, the sound is pretty good, you
hear everything clearly. The tapes haven't been played much at all and
still sound they were like recorded last week. I haven't seen much at all
from Michal Urbaniak group on dime, and am glad to share some of his music.
He's a talented and creative musician from Eastern Europe and we don't hear
much from him anymore. Maybe this post will help change that. I was going to
post these shows seperately, but I did them together because they fit well
together on 2 discs and most of the songs are different ones (maybe all).
Both are seamless recordings (no fadeins/fadeouts for disc breaks or tape
flips) the 1980 set is on an almost full side of 90 min. cassette. These
were recorded with different deck/mikes/tape, 78 sounds a little "brighter'
probably due to the normal bias master tape, although the sound quality is
fairly similar in both shows.
