30 A Pretty Sad Excuse

Night 2 of Hometown Throwdown 16. There's some serious boom in the low end on my recording of all three nights. This seems to have been a mixing issue, as all 3 nights the low end was distorted to my ears as well. That said, all 3 recordings are still perfectly listenable, if not particularly great. I hope to have upgraded my gear by next year's Throwdown, to be able to handle their mammoth sound a bit better.

Onto specific comments on my Night 2 recording. Night 2 had the least boom to my ears, and this reflects in the recording as well thankfully. This is certainly the best of the 3 recordings. Strangely enough, I anticipated my Night 2 recording being the worst of the bunch, as I was in what I would've thought was the worst taping spot. There's still a slight low end boom, but not nearly as bad as on my Night 1 and Night 3 recordings. The sound on I'll Drink To That is a bit flat compared to the rest of the set; I was at the railing on the mezzanine, and there was a pipe that started leaking above the guy in front of me about 2/3 of the way through the song - he took a step back from the railing for the the rest of the gig, leaving me with a clear line to the stacks for the rest of the gig. The crowd was absolutely mental on Night 2, you can really hear the unanimous roar of the crowd at times without getting obtrusive crowd noise.

As always, don't sell or convert to lossy.
