Notes:

Recorded with a hand-held portable tape recorder connected to two decent
external microphones, with the whole Frankenstein-like contraption attached
to a lawn chair that acted as a mic stand. The sound quality is actually
pretty good - this is one of the better recordings I've gotten at ProgDay.
A tiny bit muffled, with just a hint of hiss since it was recorded on
analog tape (Maxell XL II 90 min), but overall it sounds surprisingly good.

I had been hoping to see Keneally at ProgDay ever since he and his band
ripped my head off multiple times in 1998 as I followed them around New
Jersey and Pennsylvania like some Grateful Dead groupie. Mike always puts
on a great show, and his generally relaxed attitude and spontaneity just
seemed like the perfect match for the atmosphere at ProgDay. So when I
heard that it was finally going to happen in 2005, I was psyched.

It would have been awesome if the big "Dancing" band could have played
ProgDay, but the stripped-down "Dog" band still played a very good set,
which featured a lot of Mike's proggier material along with the guitar
oriented songs. And the 20 minute improvised "all star" jam at the end
was the sort of thing that many ProgDay attendees had been hoping for
since the spontaneous rendition of Genesis' "I Know What I Like" that
members of various bands played together at the end of ProgDay '97.

Unfortunately there was no post-show sing-along session at the hotel
like the one I missed (arrgghh!) when Keneally played NEARFest, but
Mike was nice enough to come down to the hotel pool area that night
and have a few beers and talk music with the fans.

About Mike Keneally:

I'm sure most people who are checking out this torrent already know
who Mike Keneally is, but just in case... Mike was the "stunt guitarist"
in Frank Zappa's final touring band in 1988. Following that, he continued
to work with the Zappa family and was in the band "Z" with Frank's sons.
Eventually he decided he'd rather write and record his own music, which
resulted in an ongoing string of great solo albums.
