While Davis was recovering from throat surgery, Sonny Fortune formed his own group. Davis replaced him with Sam Morrison, probably in late April. The re-formed Septet got back on the road, but Davis's health continued to deteriorate: Paul's Mall, Boston (April 28-May 3); Just Jazz, Philadelphia (May 12-17); Bottom Line Club, New York (June 10-12); Avery Fisher Hall, New York (July 1); Central Park, New York (September 5).
