Recording Notes:
- My 1st outing with my new mics and pre-amp. I still have a lot to learn about recording level settings w/use of the pre-amp and mic position...but this turned out decent given the expected chatty crowd for a free show in Brooklyn. Also, taping was certainly frowned upon so I wasn't able to get the mics very high at all...but it's better than nothing!
Performance Notes:
- The line-up speaks for itself...huge talent at every position.
- And while the themes from some of the Bitches Brew compositions were clearly defined, this wasn't a note for note re-creation of the classic album from start to finish. However, the band locks into that quintessential multi-faceted sound that Miles & his band had during those dynamic recording sessions 40 years ago. This is the reason for the 2 untitled songs from this set...they're more like BB-esque jams, for lack of a better term.
- Separating most "songs/themes" were short audio snippets taken from old Miles interviews...a unique interjection to the musical menu, albeit a little difficult to hear clearly at times.
- Just as an FYI...this was a essentially a FREE show, with a suggested donation of $3.00 per person. It was easily the best $3.00 I've spent in recent memory...I love this town.
Feel free to share...but never, ever sell.
