Comments:

Probably the "loosest" MOUNTAIN show I've ever seen. Leslie was in a really good mood, cracking jokes and talking to the crowd. He even played three songs as requested from people yelling in the crowd. Never saw him do that before. Plus he went over to a kid in the front row and had him strum his guitar while he soloed in a couple songs.

I guess Corky Laing has now inherited the "clown prince of rock drummers" title from Keith Moon - he was absolutely HILARIOUS to watch. Making all kinds of crazy faces, goofing around with both the crowd and his bandmates. Naughtily stroking off his drumsticks. Repeatedly bouncing them off the drums targeting them to carom to specific fans in the audience. Telling Leslie to stand in a certain spot so he could hit him with a drumstick (they did this a bunch of times in one song, think it was MISS QUEEN if I remember right).

Also I thought that new bass player Rev Jones was a huge improvement over Richie Scarlett (recent Mountain bass player).

Regarding the sound quality of my tape - first, at the very beginning of my tape there is some slight DAT diginoise because the beginning of the tape was wrinkled. Second, I was sitting dead center about only five rows back, and the PA stacks are way off to the sides, but despite that it still sounds pretty good and you can hear the vocals fine, but it probably sounded better further back or nearer the stacks. And third, it was a bass heavy show where I was sitting, especially Corky's bass drum which was aimed right at me from around twenty feet away, so the tape is a bit bassy. This was one of those shows where the bass sound hit me right in the chest and it felt painful every time Corky hit the drums. I've been to other shows where this same thing has happened, only worse, so much so that it was so painful I thought I was going to pass out. It's like the bass frequencies resonate in some wierd way in my chest and cause pain when they hit me. Does anyone else ever have this problem?? I HATE when this happens, but thankfully in over 30 years of going to concerts its only happened about maybe a dozen times. Oddly it has happened to me at the Keswick more than any other venue. I would love to understand what that is all about. Thankfully I did not have this problem when the headliner (Joe Satriani) came on, or I would have had to move back to somewhere else in the theater to get away from the pain.

Enjoy!
