In Herb's original words ...

Good old friend Vestus and me arrived at the Grille in the afternoon.
As usual in those days, it was no problem to install the Uher tape machine in the middle of the hall.
Neither the roadies nor the band commented in a negative way. I was extremely excited, I had recorded
part one of Nektar’s JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EYE from their first album from the radio,
and it was one of my favorites at the time. To have THIS band in my small hometown was beyond my dreams.
Never before I had seen such a big PA system, a huge wall of WEM column speakers on each side of the stage,
similar to Pink Floyd ’s to be seen in LIVE IN POMPEII

The band arrived and began to rehearse some passages from their current repertoire and to carry out the sound check
for the concert. And suddenly there were snippets from "Journey". LOUD and LIVE! I was in seventh heaven!
The tape machine was running and nobody had any objections.

Derek Moore opened the actual concert and informed us that today was a special day: "Today is Nektar's third birthday!"
I was 14.
What happened next was something I had never seen before and never expected. The hall was pitch dark, the musicians
completely unlit, but Mick Brockett's Liquid Light Show was all the more effective. Much more impressive than in
later years, when the projections competed with the band's stage lights in a comparatively pale way.
A TAB IN THE OCEAN hab been recorded just a month before and was the backbone of their setlist, followed by
a number of songs from SOUNDS LIKE THIS. Interestingly nothing from the forthcoming REMEMBER THE FUTURE album.
The concert ended a few minutes after the last metre of my tape had been used up.
"Women, trouble", a bearable loss.

Home late through the night with the heavy wooden tape machine box.

I had a new favourite band for the next few years, NEKTAR!
