New Bedford Summerfest 2012 - Bob Franke, Rod MacDonald, Dala, Peter Mulvey
Songs of peace, progress and hope
2012-7-7, Whaling Museum Theatre, New Bedford, MA

Scott Alaric was the resident compere for this stage, and was allowed to read excerpts from his book before each workshop. I've left it in in case you're interested, but it's seperately tracked so you can exclude it.

This was an excellent workshop due to performers who did not hesitate to join in on each other's turns. One highlight was the audience sing-along during Rod's Sailor's Prayer, which prompted one of the Dala girls to quip "Best choir ever!" when it was done.

Bob's mike seemed to be really low, and I wound up boosting his intros (which I would normally do anyways) and his songs as well.

I was really impressed with Peter Mulvey here. His ad libs on other performers' numbers were perfect, and he contributed a couple of really strong songs.

But the find of the festival for me was Rod MacDonald. I had heard the name but I somehow associated him with children's songs. Smoke was a real eye-opener: hilarious and definitely not for children. I've since delved into his discography and discovered some real gems.
