Total Time ::: 1:08:24

::: VG+ FM some issues&varies in quality, but improved! Check samples for no rock or yes rock (&roll ensemble).
::: Warts (better, but still quite a few): Repaired dullspots & dropouts but high-end fluctuations abound. #01 has 3sec patch in 1st min due to tape damage. 1st 4mins rougher than rest STILL a bit muffled, then quality improves. Lite NR on talking segments between songs as station limiters raised hiss insanely. Bad reception crackle from 22-34mins not cleaned up except loudest pops. Cleaned up a lot of the worst reception pops in rest of tape it for about 7 hours, but didn't get too far. Station had poor ALC equipment as rushing hiss abounds when the band isn't playing.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: This is the Mk2 2020 improved remaster of the "Mk1" 2011 Cool Sonics #3 upload (214days/81d/l's/no reseeds).
::: NOTE: Original "Mk1" upload had MANY audio issues, including being WAY offspeed. This fixes the speed & some other issues.
::: Original uploader (yours truly!) completely MESSED UP on the speed on the Mk1 upload, thankfully fixed here.
::: Track splits & some song titles are guesswork. Corrections would be welcome.
::: Presumably right around the release of their stunning 1971 4th album, "Roll Over".
::: Intermedia Sound Studios opened 1971. Early home of WBCN-FM live music broadcasts.
::: Radio show underwritten by Cheap Thrills&Music City (LP stores). Sponsor ads cut out due to official music.
::: It'd be copesetic to hear a better source! I know there are many Boston heads & ex-WBCN DJs out there.
::: Day before this Thurs 1971-06-17, they played a free Boston concert at the Charles River Esplanade for ~40,000 people.
::: Βrian Corrigan (rhythm guitar&vocals) had already left the band by this time (left after 3rd LP, "Reflections").
::: For some time the band performed wearing classical musician's attire, white tie&tailcoat (not tuxedo).
::: IMO, the"classical baroque rock"tag for NYRE did them more harm than good as they were MUCH more.
::: OUCH! NYRE end up playing"Gravedigger"in the nude (ala Country Joe&The Fish) in "Zachariah" www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5nfMTMqxXc
::: "Zachariah"soundtrack LP"Gravedigger"not just an extended 25secs but different take or quite different mix&overdubs than"Roll Over"LP.
::: "Zachariah-Original Motion Picture Soundtrack"LP"Gravedigger"NOT actual film version.Movie has LOTS of orchestration&is much shorter.
::: The NYR&RE '70"Reflections"LP also issued as"Αντικατοπτρισμοί",a version of the same work with different arrangements&Greek lyrics!
::: Band changed names from "The New York Rock & Roll Ensemble" to "New York Rock Ensemble" in 1971.
::: The New York Rock & Roll Ensemble/New York Rock Ensemble had MANY 45s, ~8 non-LP songs & ~8 edit versions.
::: Only 3 tapes of this band ever DIMED & each was ONLY up'd a single time.
::: Anyone have any other NYRE tapes aside from this Boston 1972 FM//SF Fillmore West 1970-02-xx//Boston 1971-06-18 FM?
::: "Roll Over"tour tape NEEDED w/NYRE playing w/symphony orchestras across USA (including Boston Pops&St.Louis Symphony Orchestra).
::: There is at least one live Michael Kamen tape that makes the rounds, can anyone supply it?
::: ONLY live NYR&RE video footage to surface?"Brandenburg Concerto No.5" www.youtube.com/watch?v=wISDGuwOMpI
::: REQUEST: As it was an UNOFFICIAL release, could someone PLEASE upload this boot LP? self-titled "Former Members Of The N.Y. Rock Ensemble" USA/circa 1973?/Tomorrow TVI-137 (also released on Vibration Records VI-137 _ also a boot). Not even on YTube & I'd love to hear it even if it's pop oriented.

Recording Information ::: WBCN-FM stereo broadcast -> master mono off-air reel-to-reel -> 1st generation Maxell XLIIS-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2011-06-24 ::: 1st generation Maxell XLIIS-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL professional CD recorder -> CD-RW, no track splits -> computer -> EAC secure -> wav file -> Audacity (for fades & glitches, no EQ or NR) -> CD Wave for track splits -> Trader's Little Helper -> 2011 Cool Sonics DIME upload to various ears around the world.

Remastering 2020-12-xx ::: 1st generation flacs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -1.8% to mostly -3.7% pitch (speed) fixes with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation except on muffled 1st 4mins), no noise reduction (except 1st 4mins & between songs to lower rushing hiss)] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. (NOTE: MONO tape & Rchan MUCH higher freq average around 9200KHz (Lchan 8500) so after remastering&some patches, used ONLY Rchan to steady&improve sound (hence small file sizes). Freed 2020-12-xx.

Line-up ::: Michael Arnold Kamen (†R.I.P. 2003†) - keyboards, oboe, synthesizer, vocals // Clifton Nivison - electric guitar, vocals // Dorian Rudnytsky - electric bass, cello, vocals // Martin "Marty" Fulterman (now "Mark Snow") - drums, oboe, Chinese gong.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 697 ::: Thanks to the original taper, & Providence taper CZ for finding what was left of this reel out in the world & running me a direct copy many moons ago. Thanks to DIMER gv0000 for providing the exact date (at last!). Sincere thanks to whomever uploads this for me. ::: Corrections welcome ::: Almost a heart-stopper, but the taper had radio reception problems which are sometimes annoying & by the time the reel was copied in the early 90s(?), it had degraded quite a bit, especially at the beginning. Having said that, it was a radio studio broadcast & not TOO bad & I was able to repair and/or lessen some issues for this new Mk2 version. It provides some fine listening & further education about a band I was fascinated with at an early age & still listen to. If you're into them, you'll want to hear it & maybe some new listeners can still get turned on this late in the game. Some killer guitar playing & effects throughout. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
