Happy Holidaze Dimers and THANK YOU for a wonderful year of sharing some
extraordinary music !!

Here's a WONDERFUL (and very nice sounding) performance broadcast live from
Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, my hometown, in late January 1974, I think.

The date on my original notes left in cassette case have that this was broadcast live
on May 29, 1973 but an exhaustive search on the internet hasn't turned up even a
single reference to this show, Before House At Pooh Corner, Jeff Hanna says that
they had "spent the last five days in the studio", and the album notes for Stars & Strips
Forever shows that they were at Woodland in late January 1974, so I have to believe that
the date of this performance is late January, 1974. Can anyone confirm the date ?

Anyway, regardless of the date, this late-night show is just SO much fun - the band is
clearly having a blast playing for a few dozen folks in studio, despite the challenges of
a tiny studio set-up. This is a MUST HAVE for your collection !

I've had this cassette stashed away for many, many years but haven't had a working
cassette player. I finally bought myself an old Technics cassette player on Ebay
this week, so I am excited to be able to get this in digital format so that I can
share it with you all here on Dime.

Some technical notes : Although I almost positive that I recorded this show myself,
I do not remember what the original recording equipment was. Further, I assume that
this cassette is most likely not the original source generation as I doubt that the
Maxell XLII was even around in 1974.

There is significant band chatter and bantering throughout this performance, and
for the most part, I have cut the tracks to leave the chatter at the end of the
previous song. The between-song chatter is hilarious...

The original is about a 1/2 step up, musically speaking (if it was played in G, it sounds like G#), or around
1 semitone too high, I did some pitch correction going by various recordings and my own knowledge of the music.
People commented and/or complained about the speed of the original and a few asked about a possible pitch corrected
version in the comments, so I figure I'll share this. It sounded nice before, it sounds nicer now and the songs are
in the right key.

Thanks to jnspeer for originally putting up this wonderful recording.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Jeff Hanna, John McEuen, Jimmie Fadden and Bob Carpenter) still tour, go see them
and record them sometime. They will play the 2010 Bonnaroo festival. I have never seen a NGDB show from recent years
anywhere, a show from 2001-2004 (with Hanna, Ibbotson, McEuen, Fadden and Carpenter) would sound really nice. I hope
you all share whatever NGDB shows you have.
