The Weight
The night before this concert, I received a text message from a close friend asking if I wanted to attend this show. I am not a country guy (I doubt I will attend another country show, but I don't know what the future holds) and he is, so I was surprised he didn't take the offer. My first question was if I had to buy the ticket and the answer was no. Considering Hank Jr.'s age (yes, I recorded him as well), I took this as the first and last time I will see him. I didn't record the Wilder Blue, but I did think that the band in this text file was worth documenting even if I am not terribly familiar with them. The show seemed alright, but this music is not my flavor. We were in the upper deck of the arena, so this recording is distant. The drums seem to suffer the most here. Fortunately, it is not lacking in clarity (a high-pass filter helps) but it is lacking in a quiet audience around me. They are chatty and loud, and at times make the banter difficult to hear. This recording is likely for hardcore fans of either this type of music or this band. I am glad I documented it, but I think it's time for external mics (yes, I said this 2 years ago when I caught Judas Priest in Wichita. My finances now easily allow for the purchase of them. I think I will be trying out the SP-CMC-1 mics first with the SP-SPSB-10 battery pack).
