Tech:
* You'd need a much better recording setup than this one to capture fully the spectacular quality of a well configured and run Meyer Sound system, but this recording does a pretty decent job of it. I don't know if this was the touring sound engineer or the house one, but he did a great job! Hands down the best house sound of the shows I went to on this tour.

"Om (sometimes stylized as OM) are a three piece experimental stoner band originally from San Francisco, California, USA. Formed in 2003, they were initially known for being the first project involving Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius since Sleep's dissolution in 1997. Initially the band formed as a power duo, but have been a trio since 2009.

Om originated from San Francisco, California, but as of recent years the respective members have residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico (Cisneros), Brooklyn, New York (Amos), and Louisville, Kentucky (Trotter). Their sound could loosely be categorized as traditional stoner metal, but also has influences in doom and psychedelic rock, as well as a wider range of influences in more recent years. They were formed in 2003 by original Sleep bassist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius. In a departure from Sleep's stylistic influences of Black Sabbath and stoner rock, Om's influences are driven from spirituality and the concept of freedom. The name of the band itself is derived from Hindu culture, where the sound 'om' represents the natural vibration of the universe."

The UC Theatre opened on June 30, 1917 as a first run movie theater, and is among the oldest and most historically significant theaters in Berkeley. The 1,466-seat theater was acquired in 1974 by theater owner Gary Meyer as one of the first theaters—along with the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles—in his Landmark Theatres chain. The theater was named after, but had no relation to, the University of California, Berkeley."
* The club is following a fairly standard layout for converted old movie theaters, a few flat levels, 3 in this case, with a ramp connecting them. You'll see the same layout in Oakland's Fox Theater, for example.
* The UC Theater has a stunningly good sound system (Meyer Sound, best of the best, a company started in conjuction with the Grateful Dead's needs for superior sound after they gave up on the 'Wall of Sound'). And it was well operated, not at all too loud, just all encompassing. Meyer sound is a few miles away from them, in Emeryville, CA.

“I learn a lot from hearing those tapes... The axiom that ‘microphones don’t lie’ is a true one. If you put a microphone up in the audience and pull a tape and it doesn’t sound good, you can’t say, ‘It was the microphone,’ or ‘It was the audience.’ You’ve got to accept the fact that it didn’t sound good. When you stick a mic up in the audience and the tape sounds cool, it’s probably because the sound was cool. So it’s significant to pay attention to the tapes.”
