This was the final show that Oregon played in the US prior to heading to Europe in the Autumn of 1984 for several dates there. This show been shared here in 2013 by davmar (many thanks to him). That seems to have been this show's only DIME run. I believe davmar mentioned attending with a friend in his notes, but not actually recording this himself.
IMAC was a great venue that wasn't too far from where I live. Oregon played on multiple occasions, and I saw several of their post Walcott shows there, but I didn't attend this show. The group was finishing recording of their 2nd album for ECM around this time in 1984. That would be called The Crossing, and regrettably it would be the final studio recording that included Collin Walcott. A road accident occurred in Germany on November 8th as they travelled between cities and shows, and Walcott perished. This IMAC show seems to have been Oregon's final US appearance before heading over to Europe.
The only song from Crossing played in this set is Queen of Sydney, although there's something toward the end of that final improv in set 1 that seems familiar and might pop up there or elsewhere on an Oregon or Towner album. I just couldn't place it. There were 2 shows that night at IMAC, but it doesn't seem that a recording exists of their 2nd show. It's worth noting that Oregon was incorporating synthesizers in their compositions and recordings at this point in time. It's clear that someone other than Ralph Towner is playing them at some points in this show. That said, it's surely one of the other group members, as they tended to move around from instrument to instrument pretty freely.
davmar's original source info is pasted in below from the archive. The show was a very good AUD for that time, and it seemingly ran at, or close to, the proper pitch/speed. For this share, some of the EQ/Mastering tools in Audacity were used to try to add a bit more bottom. The show is now also tracked a bit differently, as it had originally been shared for 2 cd's (one per show). It's doubtful that many people are still burning shows to disc these days. The Improvs are also now separated from the known compositions that either follow or lead in to them.
This isn't being shared at the show anniversary date, which was missed about 3 weeks ago. It's the 6th and final Oregon show I'm sharing this October. Time to personally move show shares into different directions, but it's likely there'll be more Oregon or Oregon related things to come before too long.
