ABOUT THE BAND
Formed in January 2008, the DHJO has established itself as one of the premier jazz orchestras in Canada featuring stellar players who individually have performed with music legends such as Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, Tito Puente, The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The Woody Herman Orchestra, The Count Basie Orchestra, Manhattan Transfer and many others. What started out as a three-week Big-Band engagement in Hamilton's downtown Corktown Pub turned into "one of the year's more interesting phenomena" (Hamilton Magazine) and created a buzz well outside Hamilton's borders.
Word about this 'hidden treasure' spread quickly, resulting in a 2009 Tourism Hamilton Award as well as a busy performance schedule which included appearances with vocal sensation Nikki Yanofsky at the Capitol Theatre in Toronto and it was also the featured band at the 2009 National Jazz Awards.
