Otis Blackwell is probably best known for writing a few songs made popular by Elvis Presley.
After Elvis passed away, Otis thought it was the perfect time to try and stake his claim as the new king of rock and roll.
As noted by the title of the first track sung. I'll let you be the judge of that, though I believe he falls short of that accomplishment.
I went on youtube and listened to a bunch of Otis Blackwell 45's, just to get an idea of what he originally sounded like back in the day....
This live recording sounds very different compared to Blackwell's original 45's.. Songs now performed in a very different manner.
Otis and back up singers tend to sing off key from time to time. They definitely needed to practice their harmonies a bit more.
I'm more amazed that there's even a recording of this show. :-) But it's pretty cool for nostalgia's sake.
Oh and let me mention the coolest part that we don't get to hear, Otis was opening for Jerry Lee Lewis !!!!
Otis Blackwell passed away on May 6, 2002 at the age of 71.

Thanks goes to BR for taping this off the radio so many years ago.
I've added a scan of the newspaper review inside the torrent.
