Kevin's recording location is unconfirmed, but he made an excellent sounding tape of this concert nonetheless. During 'Shake My Tree' Kevin tried to change to an empty seat nearby because, "someone got sick all over the place". This caused some shifting and muffled sound for a portion of the song. Not long after, Kevin switched spots again during 'Lullaby' and settled into his final spot.
I used Chris Bold's source to patch Kevin's tape flips, and where he paused the tape during the encore break, making the concert totally complete.

I was also at this show rolling tape. My recording is (mostly) not as good as Kevin's, but perhaps less puker problems than his... haha! Mine will eventually be processed and released as well, but the source that I really wish could get out is our friend Fred's source! I believe it was Fred who introduced me to out mutual friend Kevin. Fred, I believe, was taping from "the taper's section" with his Superscope CD330 rig, but his masters are still being kept close to home and haven't been shared...
I am aware of another early legacy circulating source that appears to be from a tape trade, but after hearing Chris' source when it was released, I believe that unknown gen tape was a cassette dub of his DAT source, but I cannot confirm that. So, does that make Kevin's tape "source 3" or "source 2"... haha! How *do* we name sources? LOL!!! Ultimately, I guess there were at least 4 or 5 concert tapers in attendance...
As I am going through Kevin's tapes (and my own) I tend to get inspired at random, and pull out a set of tapes to play. I saw the Page & Plant masters, and decided to transfer them. Part way through side A, looking at my computer files, I realized that I had already made a decent transfer of them a few years ago! I sent Leif those files to work on, and it possibly looked like there was a technical problem with them. I went ahead and re-RE-transferred them and sent a new set of files, but the perceived problem was still present, as if it was embedded on the master taped themselves. A few songs had "spectral stripes" of certain frequencies ringing out loudly. Leif thought he heard fire alarms or something! He has done his best to minimize the flaw and filter it out, and you the end user shouldn't notice. He also removed a few screamers that were pretty loud on the masters.
So glad I was there, too! Boy oh boy, what a show!
More to come!

The Kevin Davie Memorial Series
This series is in memory of Kevin Davie who died suddenly 31 March 2016. Kevin was an avid taper & recorded many concerts mainly in Vancouver, Victoria & Toronto. All these recordings have been sourced directly from Kevins master cassettes. With thanks to Mary Davie, Kevins Mother for allowing us access to all of Kevins masters. This is a joint venture between DGB, Dennis Orr, Seth Meister, Leif H & John MacMillan. Kevin was a dear friend of mine & helped me greatly when I first moved to Canada in June 1994 for which I will forever be grateful. He had a great sense of humour. He was always happy to remind me of Ray Coopers percussion solo that I had to endure at the end of all the Eric Clapton shows I went to in the 90s (there were many!). He did an excellent job in impersonating Mr. Cooper! Kevin had a great taste in music & shared my love of the blues. We hope that you enjoy these releases & that we can continue Kevins legacy for many years to come. You left this world way too soon. Rest in peace my friend.

Kevin and I had plans to post some of his shows himself. After downloading and seeding torrents for a while, he needed the ratio boost! haha. He had taped and traded for years through the mail, but hadn't gone digital with his own collection yet. We had begun to work on some of his shows and had plans to do more, when we had a bit of a dust up over something silly. Sadly, we never had the chance to mend fences together before he passed. He was a good friend and I miss him a lot. Hopefully, through this series of shows, Kevin's memory can be properly honoured and that he can continue to leave a lasting legacy with the recordings that he left behind. I also hope that when I go beyond this world that my master cassette collection that I haven't gotten to will find a similar new home with trader's and collectors and fans everywhere, too...
