Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

KEV & CARL WROTE THIS AS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE ORIGINAL TORRENT:
I can feel the palpable tension of all you Dimers waiting for the next Lampinski.....well, the wait is over and here we go with the final leg of "The Dan Lampinski Tapes". We have exactly 20 uploads left, 2 of which are revisions of previous shows, so there are 18 brand new gems left to go. As I mentioned in my previous torrent, there are more things yet to come, but this run will constitute what I referred to as the "Crown Jewels" of the collection. Our schedule has us concluding the festivities on November 6th with what we hope will be a very special and unique event in Dime history. Then Carl, Eric and I will take a break until sometime after the holly-daze to catch our breath and relax. 2011 will see some really fun things, but this batch will most certainly be unbeatable.
I can't believe it has been a year and two months since we started this....I have had more fun watching folks enjoy the recordings, sharing memories (the secret Tubes story was the best - you know who you are) and having the time of our lives. It has been a joy to see all the loving labour that went into remastering, matrixing and spreading these recordings all over the internet. A project like this is meaningless without the support of others.
Today we near the chronological end of Dan's recording career with a foray into the jazzy realms of Passport. A quick search revealed only one actual Passport torrent on Dime, so I am guessing that even though this won't be the most downloaded post, it will be among the most passionately received. We will be back tomorrow with a big ole blast of fusion.
Gentlemen (and Ladies!) start your engines......let the white flag lap of the Lampinskis begin!

DAN LAMPINSKI (DBLTAPER) WROTE ON 2010-08-08:
It's no reflection of the quality of the group or their music...because I liked Passport...but if I did not have a recording of this show...and noticed my voice and my friend Bill's voice on the tape...I would deny to my dying breath that I wasn't there...because I recalled nothing of this gig in advance of listening. Some vague memories have resurfaced since. I must have taken a "forget" pill before that evening...or more predictably...some illicit substances. The big mystery is...how did I ever get my gear into the Boston Paradise!?! ...and how did I manage to get such a good recording...under...what I assume were strong counteracting influences!?! Maybe Bill took the wheel!

Many thanks to Dan Lampinski who originally recorded this show and many others. Also thanks to Carl Morstadt and Kevin Hall who initially transferred and uploaded Dan's tapes.
Sadly, Dan died in early 2025. Carl uploaded a folder of photos and memories about Dan and his recordings that should be available at this location through at least February 2026: https://we.tl/t-nFHOH4Xymt
