Here's a PMG show from the Beacon in NYC that came near to the end of the 1984 shows in support of the First Circle album. More shows would resume supporting that in March of 85. I actually attended this show. When I became aware of trading shows via cd-r's, it was one of the first I sought out because I'd remembered it as a particularly good show. I'm not sure of its history on TTD, but it's not seeming to have been very widely circulated. I'm guessing that may all be due to the fact the recording is generally quite good, but it included some definite problems. I'm hoping that this current share might now have rectified some of those issues and turned this into a First Circle show that will prove to be enjoyable.
The problems had centered on the fact that despite the taper clearly possessing some good equipment for capturing a show in a venue like the Beacon, they'd made some cardinal sins (or rookie mistakes) during the show. Those included actually participating several times in chats with folks near them, and also getting a bit "trigger happy" in changing input levels on the fly. Fortunately, some of the more obvious chatting took place between songs, and was pretty easy to seamlessly remove. That said, you'll still hear chatter in a few spots, but things like a "speak into the mic" interview with a friend during the encore applause, and almost comical discussions regarding the name of a song are now gone. The fluctuating input levels were also effectively addressed using Audacity's tool set. EQ and Mastering tools were used too for the sake of enhancing clarity and depth. Finally, there had also been several problems with the tracking on my discs. Not sure if that may have been the case for others who'd gotten this show, but that's all been cleaned up now through Audacity for this 2025 share.
Thanks to the taper for providing basically good raw material, and to the trader who'd sent this my way. I retain a real fondness for this era of the PMG. For those who share that feeling, I'm guessing this will prove to be an enjoyable return to that time-even with the occasional blemishes in this recording that remain. Check the samples below to get an idea of what you'll be getting.
