With Tokyo under our belt, we go back the US. We open in Seattle Washington at the Kingdome. This recording however is a bit of a conundrum. My cassette is a recording I got from a trading mate in Long Island. Have no notations about generation but I would take it for 3rd or perhaps 4th. But here is the rub, there is a circulating copy from the same recorder that was put out by JEMS (that I have had for about 10 years) which is said to be a master DAT recording. That by nature should outrank my 3-4th gen cassette. Oddly enough the JEMS recording is muddy compared to the cassette. The cassette is much brighter sounding. Now both versions are not without their flaws, JEMS says they had to do a lot of work to make the recording listenable, no details on what they did however. The cassette has issues with speed, overall, it ran too fast with random issues with wow and flutter. I believe probably due to the age of the tape. Or maybe one of the original transfers. As this is the first cassette from this era to have this issue. The cassette also is missing Golden Slumbers and had a recording from another night in its place, an incomplete one at that.

After much debate I decided to post my cassette version as it wasn’t in circulation and you can decide which copy you prefer in your collection. I did pull Golden Slumbers from the JEMS recording so at least this was complete. And perhaps if someone from JEMS want to chime in and shed some light as to why theirs sounds so muddy. I adjusted the speed, cleaned up some random fades but the random wow and flutter is what it is.

In addition to the show, we have the press conference from the afternoon on the same day and a radio program which is title “Good Rockin’ Tonight” that contains bits of interview with Paul that is described as being recorded in Montreal. Have to assume that was back in December. There is no station ID or other info in the recording, I just have the broadcast date listed as March 16, 1990. So, if anyone has any info on this speak up.

Next time we’ll see you in Berkley.

You might ask what's the point of this series, haven't these shows all been posted before. Well, yes, most if not all of them have been posted before. But the quality of many of them has not been good, plus the lineage of many is pretty much non-existent. Also, there are some that are posted as "source one or two" when in reality are the same recording just from a different poster or cdr. In this series alternate sources means a different taper. Plus, many of the tapes I collected at the time of the tour and are low generation, many 1st or 2nd. Plus a few masters. I am also including relevant material such as press conferences and radio broadcasts from the tour. So that we can have everything collected all in one place.

Please share freely, do not convert to lossy except for personal use. Please trade with the original files after allowing me sufficient time to post on my favorite sites.

All recordings are kept as original as possible with minimal processing. Unless noted otherwise the only adjustments made are Automatic Phase Correction, Level adjustments and cleaning of any rough or abrupt cuts.
