I last saw Paul McCartney in Detroit back on October 2nd, 2017. I was gifted
the ticket and I honestly thought that would be the one and only time I would
get to see him in concert. I never thought he would still be touring 8 years
later at the age of 83. When the Columbus date got announced, I decided to
jump in the presale to see if I could get a decent single near a stack prior
to dynamic pricing setting in. Somehow, I got really lucky and got in quick
& had my pick of nearly any seat in the house. The onset pricing was already
absurd. Nearly every ticket (outside of nosebleeds) were out of my price
range, but they did have "limited view" side stage tickets in the club level
slightly above the $300 price point. I grabbed it. Knowing full well, this
will be the cheapest ticket I'll find in that area. I logged back onto TM
30 minutes after the purchase and tickets in my row were already up to $480
& then all the pink resales magically kicked in at even more. TM is such a
freaking joke. This was being treated as the concert of the year in Columbus,
it was all over the news for weeks and demand on the secondary market was
through the roof. If it was warmer out, Paul could have easily sold out Ohio
Stadium seating over 102k, but here we were in Nationwide Arena with a max
capacity of 20k. I went into the concert with tempered expectations given
some reviews I've read of Paul's 2025 shows. Now, Paul's singing voice is
not what it used to be - there were plenty of telltale signs! However, it
was nothing short of extraordinary watching him get on that stage commanding
an arena for nearly 3 hours. The band, the songs, the goosebumps! I didn't
really even care about his voice to be honest. It was an in the moment thing.
For him to be doing this at the age of 83, singing Beatles songs that were
recorded and released over 60 years ago... just incredible. Recording wise,
I had very polite neighbors except for one to my right who decided to yell
at the top of her lungs in between nearly every song, so I spent a fair
amount of time in iZotope compressing and removing her when I could. The
3 minute encore break was removed (due to her spending the duration of it
screaming), so there was a crossfade applied when Paul returned. I also
clipped various yelps & screams when I could in between songs. I did boost
some levels on the quieter songs and there was also a slight EQ performed
before normalizing. Most of the intro/walk out montage was cut, as well.
