from the taper harwilmer:

I am very excited to be able to offer the earliest generation recording in existence for this special show!
As far as has been seen/heard, this is the only recording in circulation. And, this has been freshly digitized
from the cassette source for previous circulating digital versions.

I was very lucky to have the parents of a girlfriend of a friend (who wasn't even going to go with me to the
concert) order these tickets during the SPAC member's advance order period. Even still, I was dumbfounded to
have ended up with 4th row center Orchestra Pit(!) seats. These seats were in front of the regular Orchestra
seat section. The Orchestra pit was filled with folding chairs for concerts that didn't use an orchestra (at
least an orchestra in the pit). I am sure that a few of the shows sold out the inside seating (general admission
lawn seats would always still be available).

Though I was sure that the seating for this show wouldn't sell out early, I still assumed that seats would go
relatively quickly, which is why I personally went to the lengths I did to get my tickets. This was just a year
after the first Simon & Garfunkel tour (a few years after the Central Park concert). But, remember that this was
a couple of years before Graceland and Simon's further catapulting to even higher levels of superstardom. This was
toward the end of a quiet period of time (about 10 years since Still Crazy After All These Years) that had only
seen a couple of new songs on a greatest hits package, One Trick Pony, and Hearts and Bones...granted not the most
accessible nor best of Simon's output by almost anyone's measure. But, no explanations are necessary for those
interested in an artist's whole oeuvre.

OK, back to the technical:
In those younger days, I used to rerecord my concerts for tidiness' sake, and tape over my masters (usually using
them to record records from/for friends). I would never have cut music or talk, but I am sure I cut out encore
applause, and of course I would have eliminated the space from tape flips and such. Not something I would dream of
doing now, but what can you do now, also.

So, the final point is just simply that the cassette that these digital files came from, although technically a 1st
generation recording, is the LOWEST GENERATION RECORDING AVAILABLE.

Enjoy!
Please!
harwilmer

**THANK YOU, harwilmer, for providing me with his 1st GENERATION MASTERS for this show. I used
his cassettes in my Sony TC-WE405 stereo cassette player (no noise reduction), recorded by my Pioneer
PDR-555RW stand alone recorder. I then took these newly created wav files and extracted them (using
EAC) to my computer, where I tracked them with CD Wav. FLAC files were created, using Traders Little
Helper, with the setting at '8'.

This a straight transfer from the cassettes - no mastering, volume adjusting (recording level 6, no
redlining) or editing. As harwilmer had previously edited his tapes, there are no notable gaps or
tape pauses in the recording - this is a very nice (probably the best of tour) recording of this show.**
