I remembered that for this concert, I had someone else buy me advance tickets.
That's funny, as I probably haven't done that too often.
The situation here was that if you had an American Express card, you could buy tickets early.
As it happens, it was one of those situations where they had a special block of tickets that
were pretty good.
Anyway, I remember loving the show, though I can't remember specific highlights. I just remember
thinking that Rhythm of the Saints was the best thing that Simon had ever done.
[I still do, although I really do love Songs from The Capeman, though I figure that that one is
not necessarily for everyone.]
I thought/think that while Graceland is a great album, it is/was (still) overrated.
I think that Rhythm of the Saints is the true post-post-modernist (restructurist?) deal.
He couldn't have gotten there without Graceland, but I think Rhythm is more highly evolved, refined
and brilliant. I was really psyched for this show, and it totally delivered!
[Well, I didn't care for the Michael Brecker "payback" hired hand solo & I have never understood
the need to reprise You Can Call Me Al in its entirety (every night!)]
But, when you heard the live version of those drums kicking off The Obvious Child,
you knew you were in the right place...
I don't recall seeing a recording for this show in circulation.
So, I am pleased to offer this one out to the great community that is helping to preserve history.

**THANK YOU, harwilmer, for providing me with his MASTER TAPES for this show. I used
his cassettes in my Sony TC-WE405 stereo cassette player (no noise reduction), recorded by my Pioneer
PDR-555RW stand alone recorder. I then took these newly created wav files and extracted them (using
EAC) to my computer, where I tracked them with CD Wav. FLAC files were created, using Traders Little
Helper, with the setting at '8'.
This a straight transfer from the cassettes - no mastering, volume adjusting (recording level 6, no
redlining) or editing. There are some imperfections in the source - a few gaps here and there - but,
otherwise, this is a very nice audience recording.** dyermakeup
