Pentangle
1970-08-28 Wootton Bridge, Isle Of Wight, United Kingdom "Isle Of Wight Festival" (M2-AUD)

02. Rain & Snow

Total Time ::: 6:49

::: Quite a distant audience tape with wind noise, talking & mike bumps. For collectors & Pentangle completists only. Check sample if you dare.
::: This is all this taper recorded of Pentangle, except I deleted about 45 seconds of tuning in 2 different places. NOT interesting. The audience was bored, too.
::: Doc Tinker mentioned there might be a 20 minute tape of their set around from a different taper. If so, hopefully we might hear it someday.
::: The master was "stereo", but one channel was really hissy & together they were so muddy that this was a rare case where I opted for mono from one channel. Trasfer had extremely low levels due to other artists on either side of Pentangle so it was amp'd up but it is lossless.

Recording Information ::: unknown stereo recorder -> master stereo reel-to-reel -> 1st generation VHS hi-fi tape -> 2nd generation Maxell MX-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2011-11-11 ::: 2nd generation Maxell MX-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby XXXXXXXX, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer, EAC secure -> wavs -> Audacity (fades &/or glitches, dropouts, radical volume adjustments for this one to get rid of some bumps, no EQ) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded week of 2012-05-04.

Line-up ::: Line-up ::: Bert Jansch - acoustic guitar, banjo, vocals // John Renbourn - acoustic & electric guitars, sitar, vocals // Jacqui McShee - vocals // Danny Thompson - stand-up bass // Terry Cox - drums, percussion.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

CoolSonics 153 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! My copy came from "The Doors Guy" - Hope yer well! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Unlikely you will ever hear much worse from me. Still, I spent some time on this as, until I hear the set from another, better source, this is still Pentangle in their prime at an important rock event. It is kind of like listening to a distant car radio in the mountains as the wind blows. But inbetween the many distractions you can grab a few music vibes.

Kudos to Zongo for life support, Lochner for mikes&more & Fast Freddie for runnin' Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace). Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Weeks, Dixon, Moore, Gough & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Parrish & all the traders who housed me thru my music acquisition & travel years. Hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Little Queenie (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Glasses raised to Byron for musical horizon expansion & much obliged to J & Thurston for keepin' my concert fires burnin' since my continental shift. Thanks to the Mods for keepin' DIME alive. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
