Comments:
Lars Van de Voorde was first introduced to the piano at the age of 13 and was soon introduced to jazz music by his then teacher and mentor Werner Meert. He studied for two years with pianist Ron Van Rossum at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and graduated from the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp under Erik Vermeulen where he obtained his master’s degree.
This is also where he got to know Jesse Dockx and Jef Manderveld, who now form the solid basis of his permanent trio. In the Lars Van de Voorde trio, improvisation and interaction are key, which makes each performance different and fresh. Jesse, Jef and Lars try to approach each performance with an open mind and without too many preconceived ideas.

Jesse Dockx started drumming at a young age and went to the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp via StArt Muziek at Heilig Graf in Turnhout. This year, he is successfully completing his master’s studies. To further develop himself as a musician, he will leave for New York next year.

He took lessons from Dré Pallemaerts, Mark Schilders, Stéphane Galland and Billy Hart, among others. Despite his young age, he is already playing at home and abroad and has released albums with projects such as Mamutrio & Anti-Panopticon. He has also played with Bert Joris, Tutu Puoane, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and others.

Jef Manderveld started playing the bass guitar at the age of fourteen, soon followed by the double bass. He continued his studies at the Kunsthumaniora van Antwerpen and went on to the conservatory, where he is now completing his master’s degree. In the meantime, he has taken lessons from Piet Verbist, Nic Thys and Nathan Wouters, among others, and plays in various projects as a sideman.
