Peter Tosh - Island Zorro (Live at The Roxy)
This set is dead on another site. I still managed to get it from a friend, but decided I would rip it myself anyway.
The vinyl I got was pristine, sealed. So this may be as good as it gets, as the rip was the first playback. I let my friend rip it, as he’s a little more experienced at it than I am. His equipment is great, but I don’t know specifics. The set is no doubt accurate speed. That said, the recorded level was a little high for my taste. So I lowered the gain while running it through the chain of plugins. I think this way, there’s a little more room for loudness when listening.
In comparison to the set that’s been in circulation, I think the speed is a little more accurate on this, but there isn’t much difference in pitch. I noticed the treble is a lot more noticeable on the other set. Although I believe this set sounds more natural. It really is whatever you prefer when listening as its clear someone polished up the other set as well. But here we have the full length (still with cut at the beginning) Steppin’ Razor, and sequenced in it’s rightful place. Also there was a small snippet of an instrumental tacked on the end of side A. It came after the show faded out, so the sound was really unnatural. For this reason, I placed it at the very end of the show to act as an outro.
