Info (from the Jazz Middelheim website): The Harvest Time Experiment brings this vision to the stage, reconnecting Sanders' groundbreaking 1977 performance at Jazz Middelheim with the present moment. More than a tribute, it's an ever-evolving exploration of Pharoah Sanders' iconic composition Harvest Time from his seminal 1977 album Pharoah. With each performance, the collective reimagines the piece in a new and unpredictable way, honouring Sanders'' legacy while embracing the improvisational spirit that defined his music.
At the heart of the project is legendary guitarist Tisziji Muñoz, whose transcendent playing shaped the original Pharoah recording, and Joshua Abrams (Natural Information Society), who serves as music director, guiding the ensemble with his deep, meditative grooves. The lineup shifts from show to show, bringing together musicians from different generations, backgrounds, and traditions—much like Sanders did throughout his career.
The idea is not to recreate but to reinterpret. Harvest Time was never meant to sound the same twice, and this project continues that philosophy, blending elements of jazz, spiritual improvisation, and ambient textures to create something entirely new each night. Inspired by the late saxophonist's fearless approach to music, The Harvest Time Experiment is an open-ended, communal journey—both a homage and a forward-looking experiment.
