In memory of a giant of the blues. He was truly a prince.
One of the nicest, most good natured people I've ever met.
He will be missed, but surely will be livening it up for the rest
of the angels.

He always remembered me and was quite happy to let the tape roll.
In fact as you'll see here he totally lit up when he saw the camera.
I think he always had a good night, but he's truly on fire here.
Watch him lay on those incredible licks, then grin right into the camera.
You can see exactly what he's doing here and can see what a cool and fun
person he was.

God Bless you buddy!

The man was a miracle. He puts on a complete clinic here and had to have
been around 80 years young then.

This was one of my earliest efforts, so be kind. The footage here is
*great*, but the lamps were low, and the band pretty loud, and I had to
get close (past the PA) to get anything since it was standing room only
and packed to the four walls (I'd say rafters, but the ceiling was not more
than 8 feet up, so it was a sardine can all the way around). So it was
hard to get a decent spot, but people were pretty cooperative this night.

The band was Little Mike and the Tornados with Tony O. People would
almost always sit in with 'Top. This was one of the ones with Darryl
Davis (a semi-legendary player who went to my high school and was really
close to 'Top - he called him his "son"). Two boogie woogie pianos!
The Tornados were great people too.

The Twist & Shout had many great shows and filled the hall for all of them.
It was a totally indie venture but pulled in more people than the big
established clubs around here. A great scene that sadly was put out not
too much after I found out about it. The bookings were great but it was
an extremely difficult place to record (standing room only, you had to be
there wayyyy early, only the 20 or so people surrounding the front of the
stage saw much of anything, it was loud, but the energy and vibe were
tremendous). Those were the days!

TT: about 2 hours.

ENJOY!

A BOMBDIGGITY (ANCIENT BUT NOT QUITE PREHISTORIC) MASTER.
