Four champions of the North East's musical heritage celebrate the songs,
triumphs, tragedy, humour and hard times of its coal mining tradition.
Together on stage, Billy Mitchell, Bob Fox, Benny Graham and Jez Lowe perform with a rare power and presence.
Songs, stories and images from North East writers past and present are performed by this first class team
(From The Pitmen Poets website)
Thomas Armstrong (1848–1920), known as Tommy Armstrong, was an English poet,
singer-songwriter and entertainer dubbed "The Pitman Poet" and "The Bard of the Northern Coalfield".
Writing largely in the Geordie and Pitmatic dialects, he was renowned for his ability to chronicle the lives of the mining communities
in and around Stanley in north-east Durham and to commemorate mining disasters (From Wkipedia)
Tommy has a Facebook page, not sure what he would have made of that. Still, roll with the times.
