NOTES:

I was lucky enough to have caught the Pixies a few years ago in Vegas during their Doolittle tour (with Kim), and was content with that being my one and only time of seeing this band. But skip ahead a few years ago, and a new band member (will it ever be the same without Kim? Of course not, but you move on...), and back at my favorite festival, and you have the recipe for a great night. I was always a little perplexed as to why the Pixies weren't on the initial lineup for Coachella back in January of 2014. Their tour dates made sense for them to play, I was practically told they were going to be there, and then the poster came out and the Pixies were no where to be found. I shrugged my shoulders and thought well Mogwai, Warpaint, and Pet Shop Boys that night will be good enough anyway. Then when set times came out, I was going over Saturday night and literally almost spit my drink out when I saw the Pixies listed in the Mojave tent that night. I did a real double take. It was a true Coachella miracle, and I couldn't have been more happy.

Given they were such a late add, the tent wasn't as empty as I thought it would be (good? bad? I dunno), and the crowd really seemed energized and into the performance (which was great). You can say what you want about the Pixies new songs (though I happen to really like "Greens and Blues"), but hearing all their "old" stuff at Coachella (I had missed the festival in 2004 with their famous reunion) was pure bliss. "Ed Is Dead" was a highlight for me.
