Total Time ::: 79:05
::: Real fine up front, clear, crisp stereo AUD. Check samples for trials, trails or tastin'.
::: Warts: None to speak of... Surely a few dropouts left.... Final song cuts after 9 full minutes.
::: One of the earliest & best Plan 9 tapes I got back in the day & a great one. Turn it up!
::: Opening for The Fleshtones.
::: Possible Wendy Wild of the Mad Violets is on vocals and/or organ on some tracks.
::: NOTE: TRACK 3 NOT the same as official live version on the most excellent "I've Just Killed A Man - I Don't Want To See Any Meat" album. That album track was also at the 9:30 Club, but a different gig than this one (probably 1985). I compared them. Just check the voiceover on the album intro.
Recording Information ::: unknown stereo recording equipment -> master stereo audience tape -> 1st generation Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette, Dolby B on.
Playback 2012-06-24 ::: 1st generation Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer, EAC secure -> wavs -> Audacity (normalisation to remove DC offset, fades &/or glitches, dropouts, volume adjustments, no EQ) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded week of 2012-06-30. First experiment on the "new" Nakamichi 680ZX which, aside from some weird problem with the pitch control seems to be pretty damn smooth & a much nicer listen than the BX-300. More testing ahead.
Line-up (unconfirmed) ::: Eric Stumpo -vocals, guitar // Deborah De Marco - keyboards // Evan Williams - lead guitar // Tom Champlin - guitar // John De Vault - guitar // Michael Ripa - guitar, vocals, percussion // John Florence - bass, percussion // Steven Andersen or Michael Meehan - drums. (I would guess there are possibly "only" 3 guitarists here). Track 19 & maybe more feature Wendy Wild of the Mad Violets guests on vocals & maybe organ.
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
CoolSonics 173 ::: Thanks to the original taper & trader! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Well, it's not likely I'll upload a recording of this band without singing some praises for "Dealing With The Dead", one of the greatest neo-psych albums of the 1980s & this recording is from right around that album - what I consider the band's glory years with songwriting (and other things) peaking & live performances blowing minds in a wonderful psychedelic frenzy. Things get weirder & edgier & more stretched out in the 2nd set & perhaps the biggest win of all is you get a good percentage of the first 3 albums in this show. I'm a big fan of Stumpo's songs & vocals from this era & there are a lot of them here. Probably best wait til the family is out & the neighbors are off on vacation, then remind yourself what it means to "feel the bass in the pit of yer stomach". Volume obviously will add loads of fun to yr listening trips. Enjoy the flashbacks!
