This is a previously unshared/uncirculated show from Pork Pie aka Jasper Van't Hof's Pork Pie. It came to me recently, and quite unexpectedly, through the generosity of Joerg (propylaen). I had seeded a Pork Pie show from a jazz festival in Balve, Germany, and another show from 1979 by Van't Hof/Catherine/Mariano a few weeks ago. Joerg got in touch and said he had another version of that which included about an additional 15 minutes of music. At the same time, goody had written to me about some glitches in part of the Balve show. One thing led to another, and better versions of each of those shows are now running thanks to each of them.
When Joerg sent me the 79 show, he also included his version of the Balve show, plus this and another uncirculated 1975 Pork Pie show from Ljubljana. He gave his blessings to share these shows, and here now is the first of them.
This is an excellent quality FM capture that finds Pork Pie playing an extended piece that had no clear break points for tracking. Due to the relatively short length of the file, I opted to keep it as this continuous stream of music. Interestingly, this Pork Pie edition includes trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg along with the rhythm section of John Lee and Gerry Brown. None of those players appeared on any of the Pork Pie studio recordings, so I'm not quite sure about their status in the group (Lee is on the Balve recording, but seemed to be subbing for bassist JF Jenny Clark. As a point of info, the Ljubljana show from 75 will be shared too at some point. There was some FM interference, and goody now has taken it on as yet another project. When he feels as much was done that could be done, that show will appear.
Huge thanks to Joerg (propylaen)for making this available to us now, and to whoever recorded it, and passed it along through the years.
