boombox's notes may 2017:

Another band celebrating their 50th Anniversary and another off my bucket list of bands to see - for an English band, they tour here so sporadically. Of course, it's only GB left from the original line-up, but most of the other guys have been there a very long time and their musicianship and time together showed, even when GB changed the setlist to add 'Whaling Stories'. The setlist for this final show of a short UK tour was heavy on new album, 'Novum', which is really rather good, with the other songs culled from 6 albums spanning the years since "that" single, which was a fitting final song. The audience were very enthusiastic, but generally polite, so not too much chatter to ruin the evening.

Overall, the recording sounds pretty nice. My immediate neighbour tended to clap very loudly just level with my mics, but mercifully didn't spoil things too much. The PA sound was excellent, but it was extremely loud and there were inexplicably two empty seats in front of me, so the mics got it full blast. On first listen, they seemed to have coped very well, but if you listen to this loud, you will pick up some light distortion, despite Cool Edit saying there were no clipped samples. As result, I've not used the compression I would have liked to bring up the volume level even more. If anyone thinks they can do something with them, they are welcome to my original 24-bit files.

As always, if you like this, please go out and see the band live and support by buying the merch etc; their merch is also very reasonably priced compared to most other acts!
