A Doodee Music Master Recording
Here's the first of a couple RL masters I have recorded. This show was a bit surreal as RL played in the lower level bar area of an upscale steakhouse in downtown Charlotte, NC. I think it was the restaurant's first experiment with live music. I'm not sure they actually knew what they were doing at the time but they really stumbled into a classic here. Not only did I get RL as the headliner but his opener was T-Model Ford who basically had to be told to stop playing so RL could go on. You gotta love T-Model, crutch and all. RL's sound that night was some of the "dirtiest" I've heard from him, very much like the material on "A Ass Pocket Of Whiskey". The guitars were very up-front. RL was feeling good and playful and the crowd was into it and very interactive. It's one of those shows I'll always remember. It's a weird experience when you walk into a ritzy restroom with cologne and linen towels and there's a hill country blues legend using the urinal beside you. In the "juke joint" scheme of things it just don't seem right. Enjoy.
