The Ramones
The Pterodactyl Club, Charlotte, NC USA
Nov. 14, 1993
A Doodee Music Master Recording
This one's uncirculated folks - the mighty mighty Ramones caught live at the tiny Pterodactyl Club. Some one word memories of this sold out show - hot, sweaty, manic, hot, loud, hot. Oh, and did I mention it was hot? The Pterodactyl was not the largest of places and the whole room was, for the most part, a pit. I think this is the most drenched I ever was leaving a show, excluding those where I actually stood in the rain. As a child of movie culture I kept expecting to get shocked - you know, like the informant in the film that wears a wire, gets all nervous and sweaty and turns into a human dead-short. Needless to say, this one wasn't the easiest to record - but considering the circumstances it's A-OK.
As for the performance, it was just as hot as the room. I really enjoyed this particular tour as it was in support of "Acid Eaters", an affair consisting of some choice cover songs getting the Ramones treatment. I think that makes this one of their most unique shows. The Ramone's play just about all the essential tracks you can think of (Censorshit!) as well as covers of The Amboy Dukes, The Doors, Love and The Byrds. If that ain't acid eatin' I don't know what is. Even though this show is impossible to forget, there's a reminder that often pops up - take a look at the "Pet Sematary" video and you'll notice Joey is wearing a Pterodactyl Club t-shirt. Maybe this show was as cool for him as it was for me..... or maybe it's just that those were some really great shirts. Enjoy.
