comments:
This will be the third of three 1983 RTF shows I have to share, and probably
the inferior of the 3 in both performance and sound (which is like saying the
brown Mercedes isn't quite as nice as the silver Rolls Royce), although they are
all quite enjoyable. Can you believe- audience participation time at a RTF show
would come during Song to the Pharoah Kings? Chick and Stanley challenged Boston's
rhythm, and they actually pulled it off, clapping in rhythm to a hardly regular
audience participation beat during part of Clarke's solo. If you hadn't heard the
early show of this night or the NYC 4/1/83, you may think this was a pretty nice
show, and it was. I just think the other two are hotter, and a little closer up,
but this one sounds better than I thought and only has 1 interruption that I noticed,
and spliced, near the end of a longer than usual "a long one". Only a few seconds
missing. The opera House sound is quite nice so even though not real close up,
everything can still be clearly heard here. I think this came from near the
front left side of the balcony, and after playing this music for about 4.5 hours,
over two shows, I can understand why this may not be quite as hot as usual in part
of STTPK's. Still good though, and before that pretty hot stuff. This is the longest
"long one" I've heard (about 38 min or so) and this version is quite good too.
Do not sell this recording.
