THE AWHILES GROW: LIVE RECORDINGS


Call it a holiday package, a pledge of allegiance, a thank-you to my fellow floodmates. THE AWHILES GROW is a personal compilation of some of the most stirring of Buckner's performances from a large range of live shows gifted here on Dime (and before). No hard rules for my picks (the flow was key), with the exception that I didn't want to pick many of the standby tunes he plays in every show (Gauzy Dress, Ed's Song, Blue & Wonder, Lil Wallet Picture, etc.), but focus on songs here that I love but were less often pulled out live.

A few things I realized as I put this together: 1) Meadow is an absolute, no-holds-barred masterpiece. I knew I loved it, but I kept gravitating to the songs from it for this comp. And 2) I was really feeling the lack of a SBD from after 2009!! It's my hope that a few SBD recordings from the new European swing will come to light. Gotta hope, right???

Those who have hesitated in trying out Buckner's music might do well to grab this varied sampler.

This comp will fit neatly on an 80min. CD...
