Richard Sinclair's Caravan of Dreams

Live in Studio at WFMU, Upsala College, East Orange, New Jersey

*ALL COMMERCIAL TRACKS HAVE BEEN REMOVED*

Here is something unique that I don't think has been shared before, though of course I could be wrong.

When Richard Sinclair came to the United States in the Spring of 1993 with his Caravan of Dreams (bassist Rick Biddulph and drummer Andy Ward), he paid a visit to the studios of WFMU which at that time was located on the campus of Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey. There, the DJ "Irene" interviewed him and his band and also played various tracks off albums from Richard's past - ALL OF THOSE COMMERCIAL TRACKS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS TORRENT. Lucky for us, Richard and his Caravan of Dreams also performed a number of live songs right in the studio. Curiously, drummer Andy Ward was working with a make-shift drum kit, so he can be heard playing chairs and cardboard boxes on the tracks - very unique! And somehow, it suits the songs quite well.

I got this recording when tape trading in the Summer of 1993. It was spread out over two cassettes, but fortunately all the songs are entirely intact. I can't say the same for the interview though, as some conversations end abruptly and then resume mid-sentence. At least the music is safe. Richard also takes a few phone calls from listeners, including one from the big New York legend and promoter, Glenn Leslie!

I went through and cut all of the commercial tracks, but DJ Irene does announce them all so if you wanted to recreate this in it's entirety, you could. Other than those, I kept every single second of the recording intact. The recording starts with what sounds like a blooper of Richard talking to Irene which then fades out.

Unfortunately, I can't quite remember the details, but I got this tape from someone who knew someone at WFMU (possibly DJ Irene herself?) and got it from the Master recording and NOT off the radio itself, so it does sound rather good. Still, that's all the more reason to be puzzled as to why the interview is choppy at certain points...

Anyway, here is the track list:
