This was the most unusual and unique show. Table seating was sold out pretty quickly - so I got a standing ticket, which is actually a great deal as it is cheaper (this show was THE most expensive LPR show I’ve seen) and gives you an opportunity to see whole stage, which - with a 16-piece orchestra being on it - is kind of important!
Part I was a 45 min piece on the atrocities of WWI called Killed In Action. I included the picture of a setlist and Richard’s description of the whole project. There are bits that are just stunningly beautiful. And Richard’s voice and guitar blended beautifully with those strings.
Part I is certainly less morbid and much more upbeat ‘Greatest Hits’ :) I think the most outgoing songs all in all were the 2 songs he did solo after the encore break. After Eleanor Rigby, the orchestra was still sitting for a while thinking that perhaps Richard will come out again - but nope.
A comment on tracking: In Pt I, I left the first three pieces together because until the 8 min mark (after the 3rd piece) the audience was too terrified to clap - basically until Richard gave us a sign. In Pt II, Richard is talking in between tracks - I kept it at the end of each song, not at the beginning of the next one. AND - as it tends to be with quiet/semi-acoustic shows - BLG had to put some serious time into mastering this! Applause end up being way louder than the music - this took WORK :)
