boombox's notes july 2011:
Rick and a piano - what's not to like? The guy remains one of the best entertainers
I have ever had the good fortune to see. However many times you hear the jokes, (and
long-time fans have heard a few of them quite a lot!) you still have to laugh and as
for my main reason for attending, ie the music, shows like this one remind me why he
is still my all-time favourite musician (and I'm a guitarist too). On top of that,
he is also such a nice person to talk to in his post-show meet 'n' greets.
For a stealth recording, I am quite pleased with it - a bit more natural reverb than
might be optimum perhaps, but generally very clear with little audience interference,
aside from an irritating individual with a camera which bleeped and the chap sat next
door who was trying to translate some of the jokes to his partner. Bit of slight
phasing and handling here and there too, as I adjusted the recorder in my pocket. All
are only occasional minor distractions, though even I accidentaly broke taper rules by
chuckling at times - it is only to be expected at one of Rick's shows. A little EQ was
applied, and the applause suffers from some severe hard limiting, but while it's not
my best ever recording, it's still listenable. My 24 bit masters are available for anyone
who wants to have a go at a remaster, though: hint, hint!
Lastly, please support Rick by buying his albums and attending his concerts!
