boombox's notes june 2013:
The first of two shows at The Centaur, which like most conference centres, is a bit of
an aircraft hangar, so a good quality recording was always unlikely. My recording is a
little boomy, which no amount of EQ was going to fix. In addition, Wop's drum mix wasn't
good. Other minor flaws are the odd cough and camera phone from the surrounding area.
That said, this is more listenable now I've had a play with the levels and reduced
the audience applause, which was very loud (and well-deserved!), and will help tide folks
over until Spring 2014's Royal Albert Hall run and mini-tour. My original 24 bit files
are available to anyone with the know-how to remaster.
A note on the two tuning tracks, which I've included for completeness, especially for
anyone who was there. The first set tuning is included in its full 8 minute glory - one
of the rare times an orchestra got applause just for tuning. The laughter at the end was at
the expense of Guy Protheroe, who came on stage without his baton, which Rick went back
offstage to get and hand over - very obviously. This then explains the applause at the start
of Set 2 when Guy showed he had remembered it. I have included two different versions of the
artwork, depending on whether you wish to burn Track 01 of each set. I've also added a 25MB
folder of Lo-res photos - full resolution available on request.
Enjoy!!
